Autodesk Inventor Is a 3D mechanical CAD design software for creating 3D prototypes and Simulation of products.
It is first released in the year 1999, code name Mustang.
Autodesk Inventor Directly compares with CATIA , SOLIDWORKS, PRO-E and many more.
So Why Inventor? What it has which other software dont have.
The above softwares somehow similar in some points. Like in Inventor we familiar with Extrude command, In solidworks the extrude command is named as Extrude base, Similarly in Pro-e it is protude .
So every software use different names for the same functions.
Inventor Modules- 1. Standard part module
2. Sheet metal module
3. Assembly Module
4. Drawing Module
5. Presentation Module
6. Animation Module
7.Dynamic simulation Module
8. Stress analysis module
More or less every software has this type of modules but the strong point of Inventor which is unique, which you cannot find in any other software is Its Content center , Design Accelator and Dynamic Simulation which is incomparable .
Its Design accelator is so powerful that all mechanical accessories or standard parts are available here. That means you can have any types of nut or bolt which are available in the world.
Its Design Accelator consists of....1) Bolted Connection 2) Pin generation 3) Different types of frames
4) Different types of Springs 5) Shafts 6) Gears 7) Cams 8) Keys 9) O-ring 10) Bearings
11) Sprocket 12) Different belts etc etc.
All this things are readymade you just need to use them in your assembly. You need not design this things. I think this is the best Feature which Inventor have. Other software also have their own library but not as rich as Inventor.
Inventor also have some limitations like Its surface modeling feature is very weak compare to CATIA. It is not as user friendly as Solidworks .
So, this is all about Why Inventor?
